Activities

Delegates are welcome to bring together their spouse/ family to Langkawi. Langkawi is a great place for family gathering, social activities, shopping etc. There are three (3) main activities to be held during 19th AVA Pre-Congress Meeting such as Networking Golf at the Els Club Teluk Datai, Spouse/ Family visit to Oriental Village (SkyCab, SkyDome, Duck Tour & 3D Art Museum) and Technical visit to the Kilim Geoforest Park, Langkawi Craft Complex & Gamat Factory.

Delegates with spouses/ families are encouraged to join these activities.

1.  NETWORKING GOLF TOURNAMENT AT THE ELS CLUB TELUK DATAI

Networking Golf is a new event introduced for this pre-congress. The purpose of this event is to create and establish networking among AVA Delegates with local Golfers. This will open a window of opportunity for businesses and other collaborations.  Networking Golf will be held at The Els Club Teluk Datai. The winner for networking golf will be announced during the Gala Dinner at Bayview Hotel on 2nd June 2015.

The Els Club Teluk Datai
Langkawi’s exclusive golf courses, rivalling some of the best in Asia, are amazing putting greens that provide you with world class facilities. In 2013, 'The Golf Club, Datai Bay' was renovated and revamped. Since then the club is now known as The Els Club, Teluk Datai. The Els Club Teluk Datai bestowed the title the ‘World’s Best New Golf Course’ at the inaugural World Golf Awards held in November 2014 in Portugal. It is a 18 hole championship golf course with par 72 and stretching from 5,369 yards at the forward tees to 6,760 yards at the championship tees.

2. SPOUSE/ FAMILY VISIT TO ORIENTAL VILLAGE (SKYCAB, SKYDOME, DUCK TOUR & 3D ART MUSEUM) 
2nd June 2015 | Tuesday: 8.30am – 01.00pm
Additional fee: RM120 95 per pax (adults) & RM90 50 per pax (kids) - Local Delegates and USD50 40 per pax (adults) & USD35 30 per pax (kids) - International Delegates

There is a half day activity planned for spouse/ family during the seminar. Spouses/ families will be visiting Oriental Village Complex and will be able to enjoy the cable car (skycab) ride, experiencing SkyDome animation, cruising the amphibious vehicle (duck tour) and visiting the three-dimensional (3D) art museum.
 
Oriental Village Complex
Oriental Village is a theme complex housing in 30 individually designed buildings showcasing Malaysian and Oriental architecture. It is located just north of the Langkawi International Airport, on the north-western coast of the main island of Langkawi. It is just an approximate 40 minutes’ drive from Kuah town and 15 minutes’ drive from Langkawi International Airport. There are many tourist attractions located within oriental village such as cable car (skycab), skydome, duck tour, 3D art museum etc.

Langkawi Cable Car (SkyCab)
The Langkawi Cable Car (SkyCab) is one of the major attractions in Langkawi Island, Kedah, Malaysia. It provides an aerial link from near Burau Bay Resort at Teluk Burau to the peak of Gunung Machinchang, which is also the location of the Langkawi Sky Bridge. The total length is 2.2 km (1.4 mi).

SkyDome
SkyDome showcase 360 3D image projections which easily covered your field of view which offers an outstanding animation experience. The sensation is lifted into next dimension and further enhanced with high definition (HD). It will definitely plunge you into unforgettable experience. You can relax and let yourself drift along at the whim of your own imagination.

Duck Tour
The 'Duck' is an amphibious vehicle that looks and acts like a boat as well as a bus. The tour starts at the Oriental Village where the cable car departs from and trundles down to a ramp at Telaga harbour 2 kilometers from the cable car. It then plunges into the water, takes a tour of the marina and the boats at anchor outside and then trundles back up to the cable car. It gives the passengers the exhilaration of both land and sea.

3D Art Museum
The country's biggest 3D Art Museum and also the world's second biggest built at a cost of RM17 million in Oriental Village was officially open to the public in 2015 opened by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. It is the latest attraction for the free-duty tourism island. The museum, which is divided into nine zones has over 200 3D paintings.

Participants are advise to take breakfast before depart to Oriental Village Complex. This programme will take about 5 hours and followed by free and easy activities.

Take this free and easy opportunity to shop at Duty Free Shop (Haji Ismail Group), dining at Seafood Restaurant and enjoy sightseeing the beautiful scenery of Langkawi.

Public transports (taxi) are easily available at reasonable rate. Kindly request your hotel to book the taxi or you may choose to rent a car.


3. TECHNICAL VISIT  TO KILIM GEOFOREST PARK, LANGKAWI CRAFT COMPLEX & GAMAT FACTORY
3rd June 2015 | Wednesday - 8.30am – 04.30pm

Delegates and spouses/ families are most welcome to join this technical visit. This technical visit will explore the uniqueness of Langkawi eco-tourism and development that blend with mother nature. UNESCO officially declared Langkawi as one of 94 globally recognised Geoparks endorsed for its natural beauty, ecological harmony and archaeological, geological and cultural significance.

This technical visit comprises of a visit to the Kilim Geoforest Park, Langkawi Craft Complex and sea cucumbers (gamat) factory.

Kilim Geoforest Park
The Kilim Geoforest Park is developed on the oldest limestone of the country. It featured breathtaking landscapes of nearly vertical karstic hills with pinnacles of various shapes and sizes. This park is made of several elongated hills and islands with narrow valleys in between, and these valleys are home to one of the best and unique mangrove forest in the world. Kilim Geoforest Park features a beautiful mix of well-protected green mangrove forests, isolated white beaches and blue lagoons.

Langkawi Craft Complex
Langkawi Craft Complex is located 21km from Kuah Town nearby Pantai Pasir Hitam (Black Sand Beach). It is a tourist complex that has exhibits on traditional Malaysian handicrafts, plus it conducts demonstrations on crafts-making methods such as weaving, batik painting, wood carving and plaiting. There are few museums located within the complex such as Heritage Museum, Custom & Wedding Museum, Islamic Museum and Royal Museum.

Sea Cucumbers (Gamat) Factory
Gamat is a species of sea cucumbers which are marine creatures having leathery skin and a long body. They have a  medicinal healing value and can be processed to create healing oils (Minyak Gamat). "Minyak Gamat" which can be applied externally for healing ailments such as cuts & injuries and even tooth aches. While visiting a Gamat factory, you will be able to see live processing of gamat and also understand its history and the many different medicinal values it possesses.
